Laundry can be a hassle, especially for housewives who manage most household chores.
One of the common issues they face is using too much detergent, which leads to waste, higher
costs, and even environmental harm. To overcome this challenge, NeoHomiq created
WashEase, a smart detergent dispenser prototype designed to simplify laundry by ensuring
precise detergent usage.
Traditional containers don’t offer accurate measurement, making it easy to overpour.
Based on observations and interviews conducted over the course of five days with three
randomly selected housewives between the ages of 23 to 45, we found that they regularly
struggled with this issue. Moreover, they expressed a strong need for a tool that is easy to
use, cost-effective, and time-saving. Their feedback played a major role in shaping the final
design of the prototype.
Therefore, we built WashEase using an ESP32 microcontroller, LCD screen, 4×4 keypad,
and 12V peristaltic pumps. Users manually input the weight of their laundry, and the system
calculates and dispenses the correct amount of detergent and softener. The absence of a
weight sensor keeps it affordable and easy to maintain.
The prototype was completed in just three weeks using the Shapr3D design approach. In
conclusion, with WashEase, we aim to reduce detergent waste, cut costs, and provide a
smarter, more convenient way to do laundry—especially for hardworking housewives.
