Most urban areas utilize automatic street lighting systems that detect the transition between day and night to control illumination automatically. However, remote regions, such as villages, often rely on conventional street lights, which are less energy-efficient and require more frequent maintenance. To address these limitations, this project introduces an innovative Smart Street Light System designed to enhance energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and improve road safety.
The system incorporates intelligent sensing technologies, including light sensors to adapt lighting based on environmental conditions and ultrasonic sensors to detect vehicle presence. When a vehicle is detected, the lights activate at full brightness; once the vehicle passes, the lighting gradually dims over a predetermined period to conserve energy. Control and monitoring are managed via the Arduino platform, enabling efficient operation without complex maintenance requirements.
This approach aims to reduce unnecessary energy consumption, enhance road safety through responsive lighting, and promote environmental sustainability by minimizing electricity waste. By optimizing the use of energy resources, the system offers long-term benefits, including lower operational costs and reduced maintenance expenses for street lighting infrastructure.
