Many valuable local stories, especially from cultures like the Iban people in rural areas of Malaysia, are disappearing due to a lack of accessible recording methods and limited internet. This loss of oral history and traditional knowledge negatively impacts how we learn about our past and compromises Quality Education.
Our team of primary school students created "The Voices," an innovative app concept designed to solve this. We used Canva to prototype a user-friendly app that enables anyone to easily record, categorize, and preserve these precious oral histories offline. This allows communities to capture and store their heritage directly on devices, without needing constant internet.
"The Voices" is a sustainable solution, relying on free design tools and conceptualizing a low-resource technical framework. By empowering communities to save their unique cultures, like the Iban heritage, and make historical knowledge accessible, our project directly supports Global Goal No. 4: Quality Education. We demonstrate that even young learners can create impactful, innovative tools to preserve cultural legacy and enhance learning for all.
