Food wastage is a perpetual problem not only in Malaysia but all around the world. According to Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation, the household sector accounts for 44.5 percent of the 16 667.50 tonnes of food waste generated in Malaysia daily. School canteens also contribute to the number of food waste. Some kids are picky eaters, and if the food is not appealing, they tend to leave it untouched. This will lead to massive food waste in the school canteen. The food will inevitably end up in the trash. The idea of transforming food waste into cat food came when seeing many stray cats around the school and the students love to feed the cat with their leftover food. Only protein-based food such as chicken and fish were collected and turned into delicious yet nutritious kibbles. This is a non-profit project that aims to create awareness among the school children about food waste and its effects on the environment and ecosystem. The idea of turning leftover food into nutritious cat food will give another alternative to manage food waste other than composting. In the next future, we planned to work together with fast food restaurant in the neighbourhood to launch awareness campaign and educate public about food waste. As shown above, Kitty Cuisine is so unique because the kibbles are baked with passion and love. Furthermore, the product is exclusively produced from leftover food from the school canteen.
