SS316: The Effect Of Vetiver Grass Extract On The Germination Of Ruellia Seeds

Ploynitha Thanaphongnithit Vareechiangmai School

This science project aims to develop students' scientific process skills by engaging them in an inquiry-based study. The objective is to investigate the effect of vetiver grass extract on the germination of Ruellia seeds. The experiment consists of four stages: (1) examining weed problems affecting longan orchards, (2) exploring plant extracts as potential herbicides, (3) extracting compounds from vetiver grass, and (4) testing the extracts on Ruellia seed germination. Three trials with 30 seeds each were conducted under controlled conditions. Results showed that extracts from roots, stems, and leaves inhibited germination (0% germination rate), confirming the research hypothesis.
