Abstract: Clinical Waste Smart Disposal Bin – A Hygienic and Innovative Waste Management Solution
Healthcare facilities generate large amounts of clinical waste, including masks, gloves, syringes, and other medical supplies, which pose significant risks to public health and the environment if not properly managed. Traditional disposal methods often fail to adequately contain hazardous materials, leading to infection transmission and pollution. Our invention, the Clinical Waste Smart Disposal Bin, offers an automated, contactless, and sterilized waste disposal solution, ensuring safer handling of medical waste.
This 21st-century smart bin integrates UV light technology to eliminate harmful microorganisms upon disposal. The touch-free lid opens automatically when motion is detected via a proximity IR sensor, allowing users to deposit waste hygienically. Once closed, UV sterilization activates for 15 minutes, reducing contamination risks. The entire system operates through an AT Tiny microprocessor controlling a servo motor and is powered by a 12V battery, ensuring functionality and efficiency.
Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health & Well-being and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), our innovation enhances infection control in hospitals and healthcare settings, making waste disposal safer, more efficient, and environmentally responsible. Our team envisions this innovation revolutionizing medical waste management, ensuring better healthcare safety for all.
