The face mask, first introduced by Chinese Malaysian epidemiologist Dr. Wu Lien-Teh in 1910, has become essential worldwide, especially since the 2020 pandemic. In an effort to create an eco-friendly and skin-safe alternative, we developed a herbal face mask using natural ingredients. The primary material is banana pseudostem, processed by boiling with sodium hydroxide, blending, straining, and sun-drying. The resulting sheet is sprayed with herbal water containing antimicrobial herbs such as neem, turmeric, and holy basil. These herbs provide natural protection by inhibiting microbial growth. The mask is free from synthetic chemicals, making it hypoallergenic, biodegradable, and safe for sensitive skin. While the mask offers benefits like affordability, sustainability, and protection against respiratory pathogens, some challenges remain, such as rough texture, strong herbal odor, and long drying time. Future improvements include using larger strainers and faster drying methods. Overall, this herbal face mask presents a promising step toward sustainable personal protective equipment.
