ST890: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Monitoring Device

Muhammad Zubair Bin Mohd Fuad Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique that is performed during cardiac emergencies. However, poor technique may reduce the effectiveness of the CPR and may decrease the patient’s survival rate and can cause brain death. The introduction of a CPR monitoring device provides real-time feedback on the effectiveness of the CPR displaying the number of compressions per cycle, the sufficiency of the force given per compression and the detection of the patient's pulse. The integration of advanced sensors such as pulse sensor and force sensor together with an ESP8266 controller enables monitoring on the effectiveness of the CPR. Besides, this CPR monitoring device is equipped with wireless data logging for heart rate monitoring through Blynk IoT. Designed for non-professionals, this device helps to improve the quality of CPR performed and increase patient survival rates while waiting for medical assistance from the professionals.
