Dried leaves could take up to 6 months to decompose and the fastest way to dispose is via combustion which contributes to greenhouse gas emission. Furthermore, the abundant dried leaves reduce scenery amenity value. Therefore, we carried out investigation on the effect of pre-treatment of dried leaves for efficient hydrolysis of dried leaves into fermentable sugars and subsequent production of bioethanol through fermentation. Consequently, energy classes such as heat, and motor power can be generated. The abundant dried leaves could be a potential feedstock to produce bioethanol by the improved yields achieved through pre-treatment and subsequent ethanol production.
