JS589: KataBuddy – Learning Karate With Visual Aids

Emily Rayn Binti Shahril SK Taman Melawati

Karate is a martial art discipline taught worldwide, with skill progression graded by colour-coded belts. A key assessment, "Kata," involves detailed movement patterns including kicks, punches, sweeps, strikes, blocks, and throws. As Kata sequences become more complex, memorisation can be challenging, often leading to uneven practice. Our innovation aids students in learning Kata more efficiently using a smartphone, laptop, and projector. By recording and slowing down Kata sequences, then projecting them life-sized onto a wall, students can follow and practice continuously. This method provides a seamless, focused practice experience, revolutionising Kata learning by making it more enjoyable and less frustrating.
