ST701: Multiplex PCR Primers For Detection Of Waterborne Parasites

Aleeya Nurathirah Binti Abdul Ghani Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

The prevalence of waterborne parasites poses significant global concern due to contaminated water. Multiplex primers were developed to improve early detection of three parasites in water. The development was based on Cryptosporidium parvum, Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica’s DNA sequences. BLAST analysis showed three different clades from the ancestors, thus able to differentiate between each parasite. These highly specific multiplex primers enabled us to detect three targeted parasites simultaneously in one sample testing. The developed multiplex PCR primers have the potential to be employed for quick diagnosis and monitoring of water quality in the future.
