Abstract:Acute sinusitis is a prevalent inflammatory condition, primarily triggered by viral infections, and is widespread in the global population. Common symptoms include nasal congestion, facial pain or pressure, headaches, anosmia, ear discomfort, and halitosis. Medical treatments often rely on pharmacological interventions, which may not be accessible or suitable for all individuals. In response, this innovation presents the formulation of a natural, topical sinus relief balm designed to alleviate the symptoms of acute sinusitis. The balm incorporates essential oil extracts from lemongrass, cinnamon, garlic, turmeric, ginger, clove, olive oil, and mint, known for their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticongestive properties. A novel aspect of this formulation is the use of meliponine honey, produced by stingless bees, which acts both as a therapeutic agent due to its potent antibacterial and antioxidant characteristics and acts as a natural wax-like base for the balm. The resulting product offers a holistic, eco-friendly, and non-invasive alternative for sinusitis relief. This study highlights the potential of integrating traditional medicinal ingredients with modern formulation approaches to address common health conditions through accessible and sustainable solutions.
