JS759: Smart Library Seating: Real-Time Availability Detection With Arduino And Infrared Sensors

Modern libraries often struggle with limited seating and complex layouts, especially during exams. To address this, we propose a Library Seat Availability Live Monitoring System using Arduino technology. This system combines an Arduino UNO, infrared (IR) sensors, and an LCD display to monitor seat availability in real-time. The IR sensors detect motion and body heat, sending data to the Arduino UNO, which then displays the number of available seats. This setup helps users quickly find unoccupied spots without extensive searching. A lab-scale prototype will assess its accuracy and efficiency, paving the way for larger implementations and future enhancements like web and mobile apps for seat reservations.
