ST809: SEMI DUAL BIRD CONTROL IN PADDY FIELD

EZATULAISAH EDID Universiti Teknologi Mara

Rice is the staple food in Malaysia, cultivated in Asia, contributing to 90% of world consumption. Bird-eating rice is a pest and the biggest enemy of all paddy farmers. It becomes a problem from the ripening phase when the paddy plant is already developing and filling in grains until the harvesting phase. They will feed off the panicles and cause whiteheads or unfilled panicles. As a result, it causes a decrease in the paddy yield quality and production in the average range of 13-15% of losses. The farmer usually uses traditional scarecrows to control the bird-eating rice. This conventional way is not last long. The bird's nature is a fear of noise and movement, and the innovation project brings out sound and motion to prevent the bird from attacking the paddy field. Semi-dual bird control is environmentally friendly, cost-effective, convenient, energy-efficient, and time saving. It applies the concept of renewable energy and 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle). Thus, it can elevate paddy yields by mitigating the bird from attacking paddy fields. Keywords: Semi-dual bird control; bird-eating rice; paddy losses.
