Many Malaysian college students often struggle to write essays effectively. This study explored the effects of EduWrite, a hybrid of active learning strategies and scaffolding approaches that leverages Padlet, a digital collaborative tool, and QuillBot, an AI grammar checker, in enhancing college students' essay-writing performance and their perceptions of EduWrite. Twenty students, who were learners at CEFR A2 and B1 levels, participated in two-hour EduWrite writing sessions weekly for two months. Qualitative analysis of observations, students’ work, and questionnaires revealed significant writing proficiency improvements, with increased motivation, enhanced organization, and positive student perceptions. The findings shed light on ESL writing education and propose EduWrite's potential commercialization as a language learning tool. Keywords: a digital collaborative tool, an AI grammar checker; active learning; ESL writing education; scaffolding approach.
