This project explores the innovative recycling of sugarcane bagasse, a fibrous byproduct of sugar production, to create environmentally friendly paper. With increasing concerns over improper waste disposal and its impact on global climate change, as highlighted in a recent article by Aufa Mardhiah in The Malaysia Reserve, our project aims to provide a sustainable solution to reduce waste and deforestation.By transforming sugarcane bagasse into paper, we not only mitigate waste but also offer an alternative to traditional paper production, which significantly contributes to deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. Through a detailed experimental process, we demonstrate the conversion of sugarcane waste into usable paper, involving soaking the bagasse in a sodium hydroxide solution, blending it into a pulp, filtering, and sun-drying the material.Our findings suggest that sugarcane paper can serve as a viable substitute for conventional paper products, supporting environmental conservation efforts. This project underscores the importance of innovative recycling methods in addressing environmental issues and promotes the utilization of agricultural waste to create valuable, reusable products. By adopting such sustainable practices, we can reduce landfill waste, conserve natural resources, and contribute to a healthier planet.Our project is designed to be simple and accessible, using basic ingredients and methods that can be easily implemented by individuals of all ages, including primary school students. This simplicity encourages widespread adoption and allows users to creatively expand the range of paper-based products they can produce.
