The transition to sustainable energy is crucial for addressing the growing challenges of urbanisation, climate change, and energy scarcity. This project, led by Energen, focuses on developing a prototype for a sustainable city by integrating innovative energy solutions. The design incorporates sun-tracking solar panels, vertical-axis wind turbines, and piezoelectric walkways to maximise energy collection from natural and human activities.
The sun-tracking solar panels optimise solar energy absorption throughout the day, while the vertical-axis wind turbines efficiently harness wind energy in confined urban spaces. The piezoelectric walkways generate power from pedestrian movement, turning everyday actions into a renewable energy source. These systems work together to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy, lower carbon emissions, and promote cleaner, more resilient urban environments.
By leveraging these advanced technologies, this project demonstrates how small, often under-utilised energy sources can significantly contribute to building sustainable communities. Energen’s vision is to inspire smart city innovations that are efficient, scalable, and environmentally friendly, paving the way for a future where cities are powered by clean and renewable energy.
