Abstract: Smart Knife Holder – A Hygienic and Innovative Kitchen Solution

Traditional knife holders provide convenient storage but often become breeding grounds for bacteria due to moisture, food residue, and lack of ventilation. Our invention, the Smart Knife Holder, integrates UV-C sanitation technology to ensure knives remain hygienic and safe for use.

This innovative knife holder is equipped with UV-C germicidal light, which automatically sanitizes knives upon insertion, eliminating bacteria and fungi that thrive in dark and humid environments. Utilizing Arduino UNO as the microcontroller, the system activates the UV-C light for 20 minutes, ensuring effective sterilization. Users also have the option to adjust the sanitation duration through a manual switch.

Powered by a 12V DC adapter, the Smart Knife Holder prevents contamination and minimizes health risks associated with traditional storage methods. Its design aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health & Well-being and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), promoting safer kitchen practices.

With high commercial potential, this innovation is cost-effective and appeals to households and restaurants looking for a practical hygiene solution. A survey conducted among potential users indicated strong demand, reinforcing its market viability.
