ECHOLESS (Learn Sign Language Made Easy) is an educational mobile application developed to support the learning of basic Malaysian Sign Language (BIM), aiming to foster inclusive communication and promote greater awareness of the Deaf and mute community in Malaysia. The app was designed using industry-standard creative software such as Adobe Animate, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign, enabling the creation of high-quality visuals, interactive animations, and a user-friendly interface. ECHOLESS integrates Interactive 2D visual elements, AI-powered motion recognition, and gamified learning to create an engaging educational experience. Key features include real-time hand gesture feedback, interactive tutorials for alphabets and daily phrases, a visual BIM dictionary, and scenario-based quizzes. Usability testing was conducted with 15 students with hearing and speech impairments from Polytechnic Ibrahim Sultan (PIS), where 80% responded positively, highlighting the app’s effectiveness and ease of use. Additionally, 20 mainstream students participated in the testing, with 50% providing positive feedback, and 10 lecturers interested in learning sign language gave 68% positive responses. In conclusion, ECHOLESS has proven to be a practical and inclusive learning tool, particularly beneficial to Polytechnic Ibrahim Sultan, a Malaysian institution that offers a Special Certificate Program for Deaf and Mute (OKU Pendengaran) students. The application supports the institution’s goals in providing accessible education and empowering the hearing-impaired community through innovative digital solutions.
