SmartER AI (Smart English Reader) is an AI-powered digital learning platform developed to address literacy challenges among primary school pupils, particularly in English reading and writing. Many students experience learning gaps due to limited access to interactive literacy tools, resulting in low academic confidence and poor mastery of basic language skills. In Malaysia, reports indicate that a significant percentage of pupils’ struggle with reading proficiency, highlighting the urgent need for innovative and inclusive solutions. SmartER AI integrates multiple AI-driven features into a single application, including Smart Vocabulary, Smart Phrases, Q&A modules, sentence practice, interactive storybooks, AR/VR experiences, and a personalised learning portal. These features provide engaging, multimodal learning experiences that support vocabulary development, sentence construction, and comprehension skills. The platform also tracks student performance, enabling personalised learning based on individual ability levels and progress. The implementation of SmartER AI has demonstrated significant impact, with over 500 students benefiting from its use in both classroom and home environments. Assessment data shows improvement in literacy performance from below 50% to approximately 80%, while student feedback indicates high levels of motivation, enjoyment, and engagement in learning. By combining accessibility, low-cost development, and AI-powered personalisation, SmartER AI bridges the digital divide and promotes inclusive, flexible learning aligned with SDG 4: Quality Education. In conclusion, SmartER AI transforms traditional literacy learning into an interactive, adaptive, and student-centred experience, empowering learners to improve their English proficiency effectively.
