The amount of plastic waste in Indonesia has reached alarming levels in recent decades, sparking concerns about its impact on the environment and human health. This research presents an analysis of the problems faced by Indonesia in managing and reducing the amount of plastic waste. Based on data from Making Oceans Plastic Free (2017), an average of 182.7 billion plastic bags are used in Indonesia every year. Of this amount, the total weight of plastic bag waste in Indonesia reaches 1,278,900 tons per year. Utilizing durian skin waste as edible food packaging material is an innovative solution to reduce organic waste and produce environmentally friendly products. Durian skin waste which is rich in fiber and lignin can be processed into strong and waterproof packaging material. This research aims to provide innovative food packaging made from durian skin as an alternative to reduce the use of conventional plastic which is difficult to decompose. The research results show that packaging from durian skin waste has the potential to be used in safe edible food packaging applications, while providing added economic value to the local durian industry and reducing the negative environmental impact of organic waste.
