This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of coconut shell charcoal in absorbing water and gas pollutants. This used two types of West Kalimantan coconut shell (unripened and aged) to make the coal adsorbents. Each adsorbent was tested using methylene blue solutions (200, 100, 50, and 25 ppm). The result shows that the aged has better liquid adsorption than the unripened at 25 ppm using RGB analysis from Colormeter. The activated coconut shell charcoal can absorb gasses up to 80% of its mass after 10 minutes. So activated aged coconut shell charcoal is very effective to adsorb harmful gas.
