Hydraulic Jack is an essential tool in vehicle maintenance tasks, especially for work underneath the vehicle and tire replacement. In a special course on Vehicle Maintenance Skills for students with special needs (specifically those with hearing impairments), students are required to perform maintenance work. However, these hearing-impaired students face difficulties in placing the jack base in the correct position due to its small size. Installing the jack under the vehicle typically requires at least two people, but students with hearing impairments encounter communication challenges in performing this task. Therefore, an innovation has been developed — a hydraulic floor jack with automatic support legs and a larger lifting base. This design aims to improve safety, reduce physical effort, and ease the maintenance process, particularly for vehicles weighing no more than 2 tons. The product development process involved design, fabrication, assembly, and testing activities conducted in the welding workshop, using techniques such as metal cutting, welding, grinding, and drilling. Additionally, the jack is equipped with a smart camera that can be monitored online via mobile phones and is capable of recording all student work activities. Testing results show that this innovative jack can lift and support a vehicle up to 31 cm from the ground with good stability and without the need for additional jack stands. Overall, this innovation provides a safer, more user-friendly, and time- and energy-efficient maintenance solution, especially beneficial for students with hearing impairments.
