Food waste has been a long-standing issue in Malaysia, with approximately 16,720 tonnes discarded daily—making up around 44% of the country’s total waste. Compounding the problem, an estimated 40–60% of people face difficulties accurately sorting their waste. To help tackle this environmental challenge, the “Bye-bye Waste” app offers an AI-assisted platform designed for users of all ages. The app allows users to scan items to identify whether they are biodegradable or non-biodegradable. Additionally, it enables users to donate suitable food waste to farmers, who can repurpose it into organic fertilizer. In return, users earn merit points that can be redeemed for gifts—encouraging sustainable habits through positive reinforcement.
