SS1744: ROBOT EMCEE

FOONG SHERMAINE Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tun Hussein Onn

Limited exposure to authentic English communication, low motivation, and lack of confidence in speaking English remain significant challenges among primary school pupils. These issues often reduce pupils’ participation in English-speaking activities and limit opportunities for meaningful language practice. To address this problem, ROBOT EMCEE was developed as an AI-powered interactive educational innovation that supports differentiated English-speaking activities through Speaker’s Corner programmes.

ROBOT EMCEE integrates artificial intelligence to generate differentiated emcee scripts tailored to pupils’ varying language proficiency levels. By activating the robot, pupils receive customised scripts that match their speaking abilities, enabling inclusive participation and reducing anxiety associated with public speaking. In addition, the robot functions as an automated emcee through pre-recorded audio guidance that facilitates programme flow and provides authentic language exposure.

The innovation aligns with the aspirations of the Malaysia Education Blueprint (2026–2035) and the Highly Immersive Programme (HIP), which emphasise meaningful English language use beyond the classroom. Unlike conventional teacher-led speaking activities, ROBOT EMCEE creates an engaging, low-pressure, and learner-centred environment that encourages active participation and continuous language practice.

Implementation findings indicate that the innovation enhances pupils’ interest in learning English, increases confidence in public speaking, promotes authentic language use, and encourages greater use of English in school environments. Furthermore, AI-generated differentiated scripts support diverse learner needs while reducing teachers’ preparation time. ROBOT EMCEE demonstrates strong potential as a scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable innovation for strengthening English communication skills and fostering 21st-century learning in primary education.
