The  Smart Aluminium Sorting Kit is an innovative STEM project designed to address the critical issue of recycling contamination under the theme "Clean Planet, Healthy People." While aluminum is infinitely recyclable, human error often leads to its disposal in landfills, causing environmental degradation and public health risks. This project integrates Artificial Intelligence and Robotics by using PictoBlox to train a machine learning model capable of distinguishing aluminum tins from other waste materials through computer vision.
Once the AI identifies an aluminum item, it communicates with a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 brick, triggering a motor-driven mechanism to automatically open the bin lid. This creates a touchless, hygienic disposal process that promotes public health while ensuring a 100% pure recycling stream. By combining edge computing with accessible robotics, the Alu-Sort Smart Bin provides a scalable, cost-effective solution for schools and "Smart Cities," turning waste management into an interactive, educational, and high-impact environmental tool.
