Workplace accidents continue to rise and results in injuries, death, loss of productivity and economic burden.  Traditional Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) lectures and training approaches including static e-modules, long-list regulations memorization and conventional assessment are often ineffective, limit the learner engagement, low knowledge retention, and limited exposure to realistic hazard situation. Real-life experience or site visits has proven effective, but not preferrable due to high cost and risks, and also inaccessible for certain groups, especially students. To address these challenges, SafeXplore introduces a game-based learning (GBL) mobile app that integrates interactive quizzes, gamification, engaging lecture notes, and virtual reality scenario-based decision-making to strengthen experiential learning into a single educational system to be used in universities, training centres or industries. Developed and reinforced using Buildbox software, SafeXplore offers an interactive and engaging interface, risk-free learning experience while integrating gamification elements such as timed quizzes, lives and reward system, and progress tracking. SafeXplore’s impact on participants was assessed using surveys targeting the students currently enrolled in the OSH. Preliminary evaluations through data collection from questionnaires indicated high mean scores in knowledge retention (mean =4.60), engagement (mean =4.80), application confidence (mean =4.65) and overall satisfaction (mean =4.80) on a 5-point Likert scale. The findings demonstrate boosting in both cognitive and practical application of the students. This innovation supports Malaysia’s OSH Master Plan 2021–2025 and Sustainable Development Goal 4 Quality Education by promoting safer and smarter societies. SafeXplore represents a next-generation solution and transformative shift in OSH education by leveraging immersive digital technology to provide interactive, engaging, and effective safety training solutions for more competent, and industry-ready professionals by bridging the gap between theory and practicality. Future work will include expanding industry scenarios and AI integration.
