ST1004: Silencio - IoT Based Classroom Noise Monitoring System

Muhammad Aniq Aiman Bin Mazlan UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA

Classroom noise can disrupt student focus, increase teacher stress and reduce overall learning efficiency, especially in schools where supervision is limited. To address this issue, this project introduces Silencio — an IoT-Based Classroom Noise Monitoring System designed to provide real-time monitoring and automated alerts for classroom noise and occupancy. The system integrates a XIAO ESP32-C3 microcontroller with sound and motion sensors, an LCD display, LED and buzzer alerts, and delivers real-time notifications to a Node-RED dashboard and Telegram for administrators. Key features include automatic and manual modes, emergency alerts, and the ability to distinguish between internal classroom noise and external disturbances. By implementing Silencio, classrooms can maintain a productive learning environment, reduce unnecessary disturbances, improve student focus and allow teachers and administrators to manage classroom behavior more effectively. This innovation promotes smart and efficient classroom management, aligning with SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and benefits students, teachers and school administrators by creating a safer, quieter and more focused learning environment.
