Independent mobility remains a major challenge for visually impaired individuals as traditional white canes have limitations in detecting obstacles at certain heights. The PROMAX Blind Shoes project is developed as a wearable technology solution to enhance the mobility and safety of the visually impaired. These smart shoes are fully controlled by an Arduino microcontroller, serving as the core system. It is equipped with ultrasonic sensors mounted on the shoes to detect obstacles in the forward path in real-time. Once an obstacle is detected within the predefined safety distance, the Arduino processes the signal and provides immediate feedback to the user via haptic vibration motors and audible buzzer alerts. The system is designed to be lightweight, energy-efficient, and operates entirely offline without requiring internet or satellite connections. Testing results indicate that this Arduino-based PROMAX Blind Shoes system is highly responsive and accurate in obstacle detection. In conclusion, this project successfully provides a cost-effective and efficient alternative to help visually impaired individuals navigate with greater confidence and independence.
