Conventional plastics cause long term environmental damage. But bioplastics solutions available at the moment are often still weak and still rely on food based materials. KeraChi utilizes Keratin and Chitosan, 2 underutilized waste products. Test results showed that eco-friendly plastic from keratin and chitosan has shown promising durability and water solubility from the natural strength of keratin and stabilizing properties of chitosan. Addition of borax enhanced the properties of the bioplastic, making borax a suitable additive material for the bioplastic formula. Commercialization of the product holds potential to rival conventional plastic's prices.
