YS1233: FUTURE OF ECO FRIENDLY PLASTICS : POTASTIC

ARISHA FAZREEN BINTI AZRIZAL FAZDEEN SMK BUKIT MEWAH

Plastic waste is a major environmental issue due to the non-biodegradable nature of conventional petroleum-based plastics, which accumulate in landfills and ecosystems. This project investigates the production of edible biodegradable bioplastic using starch-based materials such as potato starch. The bioplastic is produced through polymerization using potato starch, water, lemon juice as an acid catalyst, and glycerin as a plasticizer to improve flexibility. The study highlights the potential of starch-based bioplastics as a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics by utilizing renewable resources, reducing plastic pollution, and supporting environmental sustainability and the circular economy.
