The ZooSpeak initiative addresses the cognitive and linguistic challenges faced by 8-year-old ESL learners in constructing simple yet complete sentence structures, particularly in organising time markers and subject-verb relationships (e.g., “On Monday, I play football”). Learners often struggle to translate abstract grammatical rules into meaningful spoken output, resulting in fragmented sentences and low confidence. To overcome this, ZooSpeak™ introduces an embodied roleplay approach where students design and wear animal-themed hats, transforming them into expressive language agents within a playful learning environment. The primary objective is to strengthen sentence construction and oral fluency through multisensory and identity-based learning. The methodology follows a “Create–Become–Speak” workflow: students craft their animal hats, assume their roles through guided actions, and produce target sentence structures in context. Instead of passive drills, learners actively participate as “Zoo Characters,” introducing themselves using the structured pattern while engaging in peer interactions. This is reinforced through kinesthetic expression cues, where each animal is paired with actions to anchor meaning and support recall. A key feature is the structured sentence loop, enabling repeated practice of “On (day), I (activity)” through modelling, imitation, and self-correction. Collaborative roleplay circuits further enhance interaction, ensuring language use is social and contextual. The impact includes improved sentence accuracy, increased speaking confidence, and reduced language anxiety, offering a scalable and engaging model for structured language production.
