READx is a fully functional, live web platform designed to address Malaysia's declining literacy rates—where daily pleasure reading among students dropped from 45% in 2010 to only 18% in 2024. The platform provides an AI-powered, gamified reading ecosystem that makes literacy engaging, trackable, and rewarding for primary and secondary students.
Built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend, and powered by Google Firebase for real-time database management and authentication, READx operates as a responsive web application accessible on any device. The platform features dual login systems (Google Authentication for students, secure email-password for admins) and automatically sends personalised welcome certificates via Google Apps Script integration.
Key features include: a digital library with admin-managed content, an AI Reading Buddy powered by Claude AI API by Anthropic (supporting English and Bahasa Malaysia), a GamerHub quiz system with timed questions and streak bonuses, video submission functionality for reading recordings, weekly challenges, competitive reading events, and a comprehensive admin control panel with seven management tabs.
READx integrates all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the platform, extending beyond SDG Goal 4 (Quality Education) to introduce students to global responsibilities including climate action, poverty reduction, and equality.
