Abstract: Jungle Rumble – A Gamified Path to Conservation and Logic

Jungle Rumble is an innovative, interactive educational platformer game designed to bridge the gap in today’s digital learning environment, where many tools remain passive and fail to engage students in deep thinking or problem-solving. Developed using the Scratch programming platform, this project transforms traditional learning into a decision-based experience that fosters higher-order thinking skills through real-time challenges.

The game follows the compelling narrative of a baby hornbill lost deep in the Malaysian jungle, a story inspired by real wildlife currently facing threats of extinction. Players must navigate through 15 progressively challenging levels to return home safely, avoiding various dangerous animals such as tigers, monkeys, and poison dart frogs. The gameplay mechanics, including jumping and flying, are designed to be accessible yet strategically demanding. To encourage persistence and goal-oriented learning, players aim to collect mangosteens to achieve a three-star rating. Furthermore, interactive signboards are integrated throughout the levels to provide helpful tips and biological facts about Malaysian wildlife, supporting independent, inquiry-based learning.

From a technical standpoint, the project demonstrates technical excellence by applying fundamental computational thinking principles, including loops, conditionals, and event-driven logic. This structured design ensures responsive gameplay and a robust interactive sprite system.

The significance of Jungle Rumble extends beyond entertainment, aligning directly with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 4: Quality Education by providing a gamified STEM/ICT tool for classrooms and SDG 15: Life on Land by raising awareness of biodiversity conservation and environmental responsibility. By placing the player in the role of a vulnerable animal, the game creates an emotional connection—encapsulated by the baby hornbill's call, "I need down"—that inspires students to care about wildlife conservation.

With the increasing demand for digital education, Jungle Rumble possesses strong market potential and commercial viability. It is a scalable innovation that can be adapted for mobile platforms and online school curricula. Ultimately, this project proves that through play, we can inspire a new generation to protect our planet's future.
