Malaysia generates approximately 39,000 tonnes of solid waste daily, with up to 80 percent potentially recyclable, yet most still ends up in landfills due to poor waste segregation and low recycling participation. To address this challenge, TAFTbin (TOUGHbin) was developed as an intelligent autonomous recycling robot that brings the recycling bin directly to users. TAFTbin integrates autonomous navigation, wireless call-response activation, voice interaction, obstacle avoidance, bin-level detection, and smart energy management to create an engaging and accessible recycling experience. By making recycling mobile, interactive, and convenient, TAFTbin promotes proper waste segregation and sustainable habits from an early age. The project supports SDG 3, SDG 9, SDG 11, and SDG 12, demonstrating how student-led robotics innovation can drive measurable environmental, educational, and social impact through positive behavioural change.
