ST1557: IMMERSIVE VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) TRAINING FOR PERFORMANCE TEST OF PATIENT MONITOR

MUHAMAD AMIRUL ALIFF BIN MOHD NASIR POLITEKNIK SULTAN SALAHUDDIN ABDUL AZIZ SHAH

This project presents an innovative Virtual Reality (VR) training system that uses the Oculus Quest 2 headset to simulate performance testing of patient monitors with the patient simulator in hospital. Physical performance testing is often seen as less efficient, harder to scale, and more costly compared to modern approaches like cloud-based or virtual performance testing, which allow for on-demand resources, easier test orchestration, and better repeatability. It also reduces safety risks and potential equipment damage during training physically. The objectives of this project are to implement an alternative real-world training platforms using the Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headset. It also to develop a performance testing simulation that eliminates the medical safety risks. Data from virtual reality simulations will be analyzed to evaluate training effectiveness and user performance. The system is designed using Unity Real-Time Development Platform and Blender for 3D modelling. The Virtual Reality (VR) is connected and used in Unity through in Software Development Kits (SDKs) that cover the Oculus Integration and XR Plugin Management. The oculus integration is an SDK provided for Oculus VR headsets. The XR Plugin Management is Unity's built-in system to manage cross-platform VR features through a modular plugin system. The simulation outputs present the Electrocardiogram (ECG), Heart Rate (HR), Non-Invasive Blood Pressure (NIBP), Peripheral Oxygen Saturation (SpO2) and temperature readings for displaying waveforms and corresponding value readings. Meanwhile, users will test performance by selecting the appropriate cable and choose the desired reading condition through VR technology.
