Title: Clean Up Heroes: Digital Gamification Innovation in Fostering Recycling Awareness and Environmental Sustainability
Abstract: Solid waste pollution and disorganized waste management are critical issues affecting global ecosystem health. This study discusses the development of "Clean Up Heroes," an educational video game (gamification) built using the PictoBlox platform. The project aims to address the lack of public awareness regarding waste segregation and the impact of littering on marine life. The game is designed with interactive mechanics where players must collect waste such as bottles, plastic bags, and cans to accumulate points, while marine life like sea turtles must be protected. The development of this project utilizes block-based programming logic, enabling relaxed yet effective learning. Through three progressive difficulty levels, "Clean Up Heroes" not only provides an entertainment platform but also serves as a digital pedagogical tool to educate the younger generation about environmental responsibility. Preliminary findings indicate that the game-based learning approach can enhance students' motivation and understanding of recycling practices, thereby supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) towards a cleaner planet and healthier communities.
