Sheikh Abdul Hafiz Bajunaid Sheikh Abdul Hamid Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam

This study explores the use of bentonite clas as low-cost solution for removing toxic heavy metals particularly zinc (Zn2+) and lead (Pb2+) for wastewater. Experiments were conducted with metal concentrations of 50 ppm, varying bentonite doses (0.5g, 0.7g, 0.9g and 1.1g) and stirring times (30 and 60 minutes. Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) analysis showed that bentonite activated at 400 degree celcius achieved the highest removal efficiencies: 99.6% for lead and 75.9% for zinc respectively. The results demonstarted the effectiveness and commercial potential of thermally activated bentonite for sustainable wastewater treatment.
