Type Your Abstract A strong understanding of the periodic table of elements is very important for learning the basics of chemistry. In this work, we explore two innovative gamification tools - ElearnMENT, a self-developed board game, and Happy Chemistry Family, a card game to enhance the understanding of the Periodic Table among secondary school students. Both games are aligned with the Standard Based Curriculum for Secondary Schools (KSSM) for Chemistry Form 4, Chapter 4: Periodic Table of Elements (http://bpk.moe.gov.my/, 2022). ElearnMENT is inspired by the traditional "Snakes and Ladders" game, where players progress through elements from Hydrogen (H) to Fermium (Fm), encountering “Danger Elements” and “Safe Elements” that challenge their knowledge through quizzes. Nevertheless, Happy Chemistry Family adopts the structure of the classic card game “Happy Family” to encourage students to group and identify elements based on shared chemical properties. These games not only promote a strategical and critical thinking but also foster collaborative and competitive learning environments. In addition, this study also aims to evaluate how gamified approaches can improve both cognitive and emotional engagement with chemistry within the secondary school students. Here!
