Globally, over 700 million adults cannot read or write and many children leave school without early due to difficulties with literacy. This often leads to poverty and social exclusion. To tackle this issue from an early age, the EL-Chain project, where E stands for English and L stands for literacy was developed to support children aged 7 to 9 in improving their basic English literacy skills. The essential question behind this is how do we help kids aged 7 to 9 improve their basic English literacy skills? EL-Chain used engaging learning cards with QR codes that linked to phonics sounds, allowing children and parents to hear and practise correct pronunciation together. This hands-on tools makes reading fun, boosts confidence and builds strong foundation in English. By supporting early literacy development, EL-Chain contributes to sustainable development goal 4 which is quality education and at once promoting inclusive and equal learning opportunities for all children.
