i-AL-HUDUR 2.0: Transforming Attendance into Behavioural Intelligence
In many education systems today, attendance is recorded as a routine administrative task; however, the deeper issue of student behaviour remains largely unaddressed. Traditional attendance systems fail to detect patterns such as repeated lateness, absenteeism, and disengagement, resulting in delayed intervention and long-term negative academic outcomes. This gap highlights a critical need for intelligent systems that go beyond recording presence to understanding behaviour. To address this challenge, i-AL-HUDUR 2.0 was developed as an advanced AI-powered Attendance and Behaviour Intelligence System that transforms conventional attendance tracking into a real-time analytical platform. The system integrates facial recognition technology, dual-verification login through facial recognition and student identification, cloud-based analytics, behavioural trend detection, automated reporting, and early intervention mechanisms that empower teachers and administrators to identify at-risk students and implement timely support through counselling, parental engagement, and targeted intervention strategies. Additional features such as multilingual interfaces (Malay, English, and Arabic), motivational feedback, class performance insights, attendance trend analysis, and a Super Admin platform for multi-school monitoring further enhance its usability, inclusivity, and scalability. Successfully implemented at Sekolah Arab Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (SASHHB), Brunei Darussalam, and currently entering its second consecutive year of deployment, the system has demonstrated measurable impact, including a 15% reduction in student lateness, a 90% reduction in paper usage, improved attendance monitoring efficiency, and a stronger culture of discipline and accountability among students. The innovation has received extensive national and international recognition, including the Merit Award at the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2025 organised by the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI), Champion of BIGSTART 2025 organised by Darussalam Enterprise (DARE), Gold Award at the International Invention & Innovative Competition (InIIC) 2025 organised by MNNF Network Malaysia, Silver Medal at The 6th Sustainability Award 2025 organised by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Gold Medal at the International Invention, Innovation and Design Competition (i3DC) 2026 organised by Kolej Vokasional Tanah Merah, Digit360 and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kelantan, Malaysia. These achievements validate the system’s technological innovation, educational impact, and scalability as a future-ready solution for modern educational institutions. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and the aspirations of Wawasan Brunei 2035, i-AL-HUDUR 2.0 redefines attendance as behavioural intelligence, creating smarter schools through data-driven decision-making, early intervention, and sustainable educational transformation.
