E.V.A. (Explicit Vocabulary Acquisition): A Gamified Approach to Vocabulary Mastery for Malaysian Primary Learners.
E.V.A. (Explicit Vocabulary Acquisition) is an interactive board game purposefully designed to bridge the gap between rote memorization and active language use for Primary 4 to 6 learners in Malaysia. Focusing on the core pillars of the English language—nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs—E.V.A. transforms the classroom into a dynamic learning environment. The game is specifically aligned with the Malaysian English syllabus to ensure that the vocabulary acquired is relevant and applicable to the students' academic progress. The gameplay is governed by a strategic scoring system: students earn 3 marks for every correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for seeking peer assistance, thereby fostering independent thinking and self-confidence. While the board allows for a race to the finish line, the ultimate winner is determined by the highest total score, ensuring that linguistic accuracy is valued over mere speed. By utilising explicit instruction through a gamified format, E.V.A. motivates students to expand their lexicon, improve their grammatical awareness, and develop a genuine passion for the English language.
