JS1630: ECO SHINE SCRUB

SABARISSH NAIR A/L RAM KUMAR SJKT KAJANG

Every year, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted globally, with Malaysia alone discarding over 16,000 tonnes of food waste daily, including eggshells and used cooking oil. These items, when improperly disposed of, contribute to pollution, clogged drains, and greenhouse gas emissions like methane, accelerating climate change and damaging ecosystems.

To combat this, we developed Eco Shine Scrub an eco-friendly, biodegradable cleaning solution made by repurposing eggshells and used cooking oil. These waste materials, often viewed as trash, have hidden potential: eggshells contain calcium carbonate, making them a gentle yet effective scrubbing agent, while used oil acts as a natural degreaser.

Our product aims to:

  • Reduce household food waste
  • Offer a natural alternative to chemical cleaners
  • Promote sustainable living and circular economy practices

Eco Shine Scrub not only removes tough kitchen stains but also supports multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — including Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Tested and reviewed by local families and educators, Eco Shine Scrub received positive feedback for being effective, safe on skin, and pleasantly natural. This innovation proves that simple ideas can drive big environmental impact, making it a powerful model for student-led sustainability and green entrepreneurship.
