This study presents the development of a real-time object detection system designed to enhance environmental awareness and navigation for visually impaired individuals. Visually impaired individuals face significant challenges in identifying and avoiding obstacles in their immediate surroundings, limiting their independence and mobility in daily life. The system utilizes a Raspberry Pi 4, an AI camera, earphones, and employs the OpenCV library for object detection and Google Text-to-Speech (TTS) for audible feedback. Detected objects are converted into real-time verbal notifications, enabling users to perceive their surroundings more effectively. The project evaluates the effectiveness, accuracy, and usability of the system in improving situational awareness and daily mobility for visually impaired users. Tests demonstrate that the system reliably identifies common indoor and outdoor objects, promoting greater independence and reduced reliance on human assistance.
