AROMAGUARD: Biodegradable Plant-Based Anti-Odor Beads

AromaGuard is a biodegradable plant-based anti-odor bead developed as a sustainable alternative to chemical-based deodorizing products. Many commercial odor-control products contain synthetic fragrances and non-biodegradable materials that may contribute to environmental pollution and pose health concerns. This project aims to develop an eco-friendly odor-control solution using natural ingredients, namely lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius), aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller), and tapioca starch.

The plant extracts were obtained through a boiling and filtration process. The extracts were then combined with aloe vera gel and tapioca starch to produce biodegradable beads. The beads were dried and tested for their odor-reducing effectiveness in enclosed fabric storage environments such as wardrobes and laundry baskets. Observations indicated that AromaGuard effectively reduced unpleasant odors while providing a mild natural fragrance. The beads also demonstrated potential antibacterial properties due to the presence of bioactive compounds found in lemongrass and aloe vera.

In addition to its functional benefits, AromaGuard promotes environmental sustainability by utilizing renewable plant resources and biodegradable materials. The innovation supports responsible consumption and waste reduction while offering a safe, affordable, and eco-friendly solution for household odor control. This project demonstrates the potential of plant-based materials in developing sustainable alternatives to conventional deodorizing products.
