Climate change continues to pose a significant global threat, with escalating occurrences of extreme weather, rising temperatures, and flooding. One accessible and effective way to mitigate environmental impact is by recycling commonly discarded household materials, such as drink and egg cartons. This project introduces the DEVase, a sustainable desk décor item made by repurposing these materials—as an innovative recycling initiative aimed at raising awareness and reducing landfill waste. Survey data indicates that 67.6% of respondents dispose of drink and egg cartons in regular trash, while 45.9% remain unaware of the environmental benefits of recycling them. The DEVase is created by cleaning drink cartons, soaking and blending egg cartons into pulp, combining the pulp with white glue, and moulding the mixture onto shaped cartons before drying. This process not only diverts waste from landfills but also reduces methane and carbon dioxide emissions, contributing positively to the fight against climate change. The project serves as a creative demonstration of how everyday waste can be transformed into functional, eco-friendly products, encouraging further recycling efforts within the community.
