Extreme temperature, wind, and dry air are common environmental factors that contribute to dry or chapped lips. Most commercial lip balms provide only temporary protection by forming an occlusive layer and do not actively support lip healing. Therefore, there is a need for a lip care product that can provide both long-lasting hydration and therapeutic benefits.

This study developed HydroVera HoneyGel Lip Balm, a bioactive hydrogel-based formulation using natural extracts of Aloe vera and honey. The Aloe vera gel was obtained through mechanical extraction and incorporated into a hydrogel base together with honey to produce a moisturizing and soothing lip balm.

FTIR-ATR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups associated with bioactive compounds that contribute to moisturizing and soothing effects. Physicochemical evaluation showed that the formulated lip balm has a skin-compatible pH, good spreadability, and stable hydrogel structure, which supports ease of application and prolonged moisture retention. Increasing the concentration of Aloe vera improved the emollient properties of the lip balm without affecting its stability. The optimized formulations showed performance comparable to commercial lip balm products.

Overall, HydroVera HoneyGel Lip Balm demonstrates potential as a natural cosmeceutical lip care product that provides continuous hydration, soothes irritation, and supports lip barrier repair. This innovation offers a safer and more sustainable alternative for health and wellness applications in lip care.
