The CO Zero Waste Candle project is an innovative sustainability initiative aimed at addressing the increasing issue of waste disposal. By using a recycling-based approach, this project creates eco-friendly candles from commonly discarded materials such as used cooking oil, old crayons, and wilted prayer flowers. The resulting candles are safe, naturally scented, visually appealing, and cost-effective, and they contain no harmful chemicals. Through project-based learning, students engage with real-world applications of STEM knowledge while cultivating important values such as creativity, environmental responsibility, teamwork, and empathy. This initiative not only raises environmental awareness among students but also positively impacts the wider community. The project has been shared with senior care homes and low-income families (B40) associated with the school, helping them acquire new skills and generate additional income through small-scale candle making. The project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically promoting good health (SDG 3), community innovation (SDG 9), and responsible consumption (SDG 12). Overall, the CO Zero Waste Candle project exemplifies how waste materials can be transformed into valuable resources, fostering a culture of innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment.
