SMK Seremban 3 is located in an urban area, and most students live near the school. In this area, there are many snack shops and fast-food outlets that are easily accessible to students. Based on a survey conducted involving 33 respondents, it was found that:

  • 24% of the respondents were overweight with a BMI reading of 25–29.9.
  • 21% of the respondents were underweight with a BMI reading below 18.5.

The survey also revealed that 48% of the respondents practised unhealthy and unbalanced eating habits.

The findings from the survey have raised concerns regarding the students’ daily dietary intake. Therefore, my fellow teachers and I discussed and agreed to implement an integrated STEM learning approach across the curriculum focusing on healthy eating and balanced nutrition. This initiative is also aimed at fostering students’ interest in the STEM field.

SDG 2: Zero Hunger
“End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.”
