BanZest Sip is an eco-friendly straw innovation made from banana peels and lemon peels, as a sustainable alternative to plastic straws. Single-use plastic straws contribute to serious environmental pollution, especially in the form of microplastics that are difficult to break down. Therefore, this innovation introduces an eco-friendly alternative in the form of biodegradable straws made from banana peels and lemon peels, two organic waste materials that are often overlooked. These two fruit peels were chosen because they are rich in natural fiber, are durable and have the potential to be recycled into reusable products. The method of making this straw involves several main steps. First, the banana peels and lemon peels are cleaned and ground together. Next, the finely ground peels are mixed with natural binding agents such as flour, margarine and a little water. This mixture is kneaded to form a dough that can be shaped. The dough is put into a straw-shaped mold and dried again until it is firm. The result is a straw that is waterproof, safe to use, and easily decomposes naturally. This innovation not only helps reduce plastic pollution, but also supports the goal of environmental sustainability and increases public awareness of recycling practices and the use of environmentally friendly materials. This innovation has the potential to be commercialized as a daily product with low environmental impact and to raise awareness among the public about the importance of using biodegradable materials.
